Dillon could sense the unease in Kane. Maybe the man has a shred of a conscience, he thought to himself. "Please," Dillon pleaded, more to Kane than to Kiyo. "Don't do this."

Kane took a step back and looked at Dillon. "Sorry, kid. But when you get involved with people like Orion, eventually you'll pay the price."

Dillon felt rage build inside him. "And what price have you paid, Kane! Did you barter away your soul and all decency?"Â

Kane laughed-a mocking, snide little laugh. "I lost that a long time ago. It was good knowing you, Dillon." With that, the mercenary turned and left the room.Â

Dillon grunted in frustration.

Kiyo watched Kane leave, then turned back to Dillon. "This will only hurt a bit," she said as she stepped over to stand beside him.Â

Dillon struggled with his bonds, the cords were too tight. "Come on, is this really necessary?" he asked pleadingly.

"Oh, Dillon," Kiyo said sweetly, brushing the bangs of his curly blonde hair to the side. "I wish there were another way, but there simply isn't. You should have really considered the trouble you might eventually get into before agreeing to work for Orion."
